Year 3 Visit to Butser Farm

Amazingly, we got to go to Butser ancient farm last week, where we had lots of fun. There were quite a few round houses and there was a fire in the middle of one. Round houses are a famous sight at this farm. We told the staff that back at school that we made round houses, which the staff were very impressed with. There was a friendly dog, who was called Moss, and helped the staff.

In the morning we did a rotation of activities, including archaeology , spinning wool and jewellery making.

Everybody was having a wonderful day, especially when the best time of the day came into our grasp… LUNCH TIME!

After having a tour of a hearty, beautiful Roman villa we created mosaics. This activity was a bit jumpy because a huge dragonfly flew over one persons head then past another’s head. After that we did some mini shopping. Half of us bought jewellery.

Finally we got on the coach to go back. It was a major experience for all of us. Apparently, we saw a floating strawberry on the way back. {I think it was a kite.} We loved having this hands on experience and would like to go again. The downside of this trip was when we went home with the smell of sheep on our hands!

Flat Stanley

First we read the story of Flat Stanley and then we made up our own stories for ourselves. We had to do an opener on the first day and then day by day we got closer to success and finishing our stories. Then we made it into a booklet and they looked really cool. Have a look at one example.

Year 4 Persuasive writting.

All the children of Year 4 asked various teachers and other staff around the school how they would feel about a holiday in India. The vast majority said they would not like to take a holiday in India so the children designed presentations and recorded voice-overs to create a T.V style advertisment. Each group selected their own part/location of India, researched things like entertainment, wildlife & tourist attractions and used this information to try and persuade the viewer to take a break in India. Bellow are a few snapshots of the presentations.

At Weston Park Junior School, attendance matters and don’t we know it!

REWARDS

We get all different types of rewards such as going on fun trips like play zone and the venny. We also have rewards in school like extra playtime and rock solid comes to school.

How we earn attendance rewards

We earn attendance rewards by increasing our attendance.

We had plastic tubes which are allocated to each house team.

When our attendance improved we earned balls to go in the tubes. The house that had the fullest tube received treats.

Such as;

. play zone
. Venny
. Rock solid comes to school
.Extra Playtime
What happens in assembly?

In Weston Park Junior School’s Friday assembly, we all get exited when Mr Brewster reveals the house point totals. He shows us the previous week’s house points as well as the current week. It is a chart that shows the progress each house has earned (Aurora, Arcadia, Oriana and Oceana.)

What we get in assembly?

Also, who ever is in the winning house, will put their hand up then Mrs KD kindly invites one child to come to the front. They get to choose a picture token to put on the house point display board. Here are some examples of the picture tokens: Anchor, canon, a rubber dingy, a wheel and so on.

As you can see, Aurora is the current leader.
THE LUCKY DEVILS!!!

What are housepoints?

The school is divided into 4 house teams. House points are a type of reward in our school, we are rewarded them for: being helpful, behaving well also contributing during lessons.
Our house point team names are Oceana, Aurora, Arcadia and Oriana
Challenge & Sports Days

One way of getting house points is by competing in Weston parks own challenge days and sports days. In challenge days, we do loads of fun activities to earn house points. There are different types of Challenge days that are fun like;
Math raps,
Literacy letters,
Science experiments,
And loads more! Our sports days are like Weston Park’s own mini Olympics. During sports days, all of the teachers give out lots of bonus house points and even prizes to be won in assemblies. The teachers in the school are not at all harsh. They give out a lot of house points to every one in every house groups. Then they all get counted up to see who the winner is!
House Point Rewards System

There are rewards for earning the most house points by the end of the year. For individuals, there is a shiny gold badge for anyone who earns 200 house points.

If you win lots of house points your house will get a shiny, gold, and polished trophy which is as big as your head. It will be situated in the trophy cabinet near the staffroom where lots of WPJS is pride is stored with lots of other trophy’s are keptThis place is also named by the children: The Cabinet of Pride.
This is how we earn housepoints:

· Be sensible.
· Listen to the teacher.
· Get on with your work.
· Tidying up the room/desks.
· Producing excellent work.
· Good attitude towards all members of staff and peers.

Whilst in class, listen to the instructions of your teacher, as well as doing your work sensibly. This is the easiest way to earn housepoints. Even though it may be hard to achieve housepoints, there is no doubt that you will get lots if you follow the guidelines above.

Bonus Housepoints:

If you’re lucky, Mrs KD and Mrs Langran will ask the school to do some out of school research about a particular subject. If you meet the requirements of the task, you will get an extra amount of housepoints!
Also, you can get a lot of house points doing the simplest task: Homework!

Housepoint stickers: Another easy way of getting housepoints is Housepoint Stickers!!!
If you get a Housepoint Sticker, you are allowed to put an extra housepoint on your chart!!!

Travels with Miss. Hunt.

By Emily Oliver, Sophie Cooper and Chloe Carr.

Miss Hunt was our year five teacher, and since the beginning of year 6 she has been sending us postcards. Miss Hunt sends us postcards because when we left year five she went on to travel around the world and she said she would send us postcards about where she has been. Soon she will be coming back and seeing us soon.
On the second of February Miss Hunt went to New Zealand .Miss Hunt has been to many countries such as Vietnam, New South Wales .At the moment Miss Hunt is in Chille, which is in South America.
Miss Hunt is travelling round the world. She sends us postcards of where she has been. She tells us what she has done on her travels. She told us that she ate a spider and she said it tastes like Walkers roast chicken crisps. We have a map in our classroom with a little arrow to show where she is in the big wide world.

Surviving SAT’s

By Shantale Hayter and Brieka Texeira

Don’t worry you’ll be fine
Think positive and never give up
If you’re stuck put your hand up or ask the person next to you.
You will work harder then year 5 but that is ok.
Be determined
If you are upset or something don’t be afraid to ask a teacher or go to the post box in the library

Mitchell J’s ideas:
In year 6 we have been dreading our SAT’s although recently our teachers have told us that they think we are ready. We have been feeling confident but it is still a little nerving knowing they are only in 5 school days. I personally think that we are ready as well and we can tackle SAT’s just knowing they will be over in a week and we can have lots of fun!

Callum Le Maistre’ Top Tips for SATs
· Don’t panic, just try you’re best.
· Bring plenty of water, you’ll need it.
· Try and go to sleep early, it will really help in your SATs.
· Don’t worry, its not that bad in the afternoon you have lots of fun and a long break.
· The best bit is after you’re SATs, you still do work but it’s really fun and you get to go on you’re residential trip.

Simon Parker’s thoughts about SATs.

I am feeling confident about my SATs in my English because I think that I have done well and learnt quite a lot during my literacy lessons and have completed my work successfully.

I am felling very good for my SATs maths because it is one of my strong subjects. I have listened well and learnt 100 times more than I had before.

Just a couple of tips to help you do well.
Go to bed earlier than usual and make sure you’re on time to school.
Make sure you bring a cold drink because you won’t be allowed to go out half way through the test.
Make sure you come in with you’re positive head on because if you haven’t then you will be miserable and wont do that well.

Well I have given you some tips for you’re SATs, well all I can say now is good luck.

In the Autumn term, we went to Marwell Zoo. Excitedly, we stayed there for the whole day and saw the snow leopard. It was really great fun!!!

Megan Orchard
At the start of year 6 we started our WW2 topic and Yr6 learned lots of things about WW2.In December we did a jitterbug dance. It was great fun.
We all did it as a class. But then Mrs Coe said we where going to do a WW2 play and perform the dance. At first I felt scared but then when Mrs Coe said I need some people to do the dance I felt better because I like the dance. And when the play came I loved it.

Shannon Smith
At the start of year 6 we were learning about World War 2. We learnt about what the done when the air raid siren went off also we made pop up books of what their houses were like during the 1940’s. While learning about ww2 we also thought about the soldiers fighting in Afghanistan we sent them a letter and they sent one back. 1 more thing is that we also learnt the jitter bug dance.

Jake Hancock
In year 6, we are supposed to have a lot of fun on our trips. So far, we have been to Marwell Zoo. It was quite fun. In particular, I liked the penguins because a few of them kept falling off the rocks.

My favourite trip was when I was in year 4. We went to a place called ‘Woodmill’, and it was wicked! We stayed there overnight and did 3 different things:
1. Archery,
2. The dark tunnel,
3. Crystal quest.

The best was, ‘the dark tunnel’.

Jacob Venn
My feelings about SATs are that I can only do my best and nothing else.
I am not worried about SATs because I might have a breakdown and freeze and think that I can’t do it, and then get a lower level to what I am capable of getting.

Dance
At the beginning of the year we started to learn the Jitterbug. It was based on a world war two dance. For our Christmas performance four pairs performed the Jitterbug because our Christmas performance was based on the time during world war two.

Feelings about satsMy feelings about sats are do the best I can and hope for high levels. Mock sats where a real help and I think ill do better because of mocks because I know what level I am. I think ill do better I the real thing and now I am more confident about the real thing.
