Year 3 Visit to Butser Farm

Amazingly, we got to go to Butser ancient farm last week, where we had lots of fun. There were quite a few round houses and there was a fire in the middle of one. Round houses are a famous sight at this farm. We told the staff that back at school that we made round houses, which the staff were very impressed with. There was a friendly dog, who was called Moss, and helped the staff.

In the morning we did a rotation of activities, including archaeology , spinning wool and jewellery making.

Everybody was having a wonderful day, especially when the best time of the day came into our grasp… LUNCH TIME!

After having a tour of a hearty, beautiful Roman villa we created mosaics. This activity was a bit jumpy because a huge dragonfly flew over one persons head then past another’s head. After that we did some mini shopping. Half of us bought jewellery.

Finally we got on the coach to go back. It was a major experience for all of us. Apparently, we saw a floating strawberry on the way back. {I think it was a kite.} We loved having this hands on experience and would like to go again. The downside of this trip was when we went home with the smell of sheep on our hands!

Flat Stanley

First we read the story of Flat Stanley and then we made up our own stories for ourselves. We had to do an opener on the first day and then day by day we got closer to success and finishing our stories. Then we made it into a booklet and they looked really cool. Have a look at one example.

Year 4 Persuasive writting.

All the children of Year 4 asked various teachers and other staff around the school how they would feel about a holiday in India. The vast majority said they would not like to take a holiday in India so the children designed presentations and recorded voice-overs to create a T.V style advertisment. Each group selected their own part/location of India, researched things like entertainment, wildlife & tourist attractions and used this information to try and persuade the viewer to take a break in India. Bellow are a few snapshots of the presentations.

At Weston Park Junior School, attendance matters and don’t we know it!

REWARDS

We get all different types of rewards such as going on fun trips like play zone and the venny. We also have rewards in school like extra playtime and rock solid comes to school.

How we earn attendance rewards

We earn attendance rewards by increasing our attendance.

We had plastic tubes which are allocated to each house team.

When our attendance improved we earned balls to go in the tubes. The house that had the fullest tube received treats.

Such as;

. play zone
. Venny
. Rock solid comes to school
.Extra Playtime
What happens in assembly?

In Weston Park Junior School’s Friday assembly, we all get exited when Mr Brewster reveals the house point totals. He shows us the previous week’s house points as well as the current week. It is a chart that shows the progress each house has earned (Aurora, Arcadia, Oriana and Oceana.)

What we get in assembly?

Also, who ever is in the winning house, will put their hand up then Mrs KD kindly invites one child to come to the front. They get to choose a picture token to put on the house point display board. Here are some examples of the picture tokens: Anchor, canon, a rubber dingy, a wheel and so on.

As you can see, Aurora is the current leader.
THE LUCKY DEVILS!!!

What are housepoints?

The school is divided into 4 house teams. House points are a type of reward in our school, we are rewarded them for: being helpful, behaving well also contributing during lessons.
Our house point team names are Oceana, Aurora, Arcadia and Oriana
Challenge & Sports Days

One way of getting house points is by competing in Weston parks own challenge days and sports days. In challenge days, we do loads of fun activities to earn house points. There are different types of Challenge days that are fun like;
Math raps,
Literacy letters,
Science experiments,
And loads more!Our sports days are like Weston Park’s own mini Olympics. During sports days, all of the teachers give out lots of bonus house points and even prizes to be won in assemblies. The teachers in the school are not at all harsh. They give out a lot of house points to every one in every house groups. Then they all get counted up to see who the winner is!
